City Facts
Bangkok is one
of the most vibrant capital cities of Southeast Asia. The city was once
known as the Venice of the East for the network of canals or klongs crisscrossing
the city. Thailand's capital was established on the banks of the Chao Phraya
River, the "River of Kings", in 1782 by King Rama I. Thai people refer
to Bangkok as Krung Thep, the "City
of Angels".
The must-see
attractions include Wat Phra Kaew, Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Traimit.
Another attraction well worth a visit is the Bang Pa In, the former summer
residence of the royal family in the 17th century, located 37 miles north
of Bangkok it's collection of buildings reflects oriental and European
influences.

Airport - BKK is located 25km, north of the city center is operated
by the Airports Authority of Thailand. It is a major gateway in South-east
Asia, and serves inbound and outbound flights daily.

A registration
fee of US $450 includes conference materials, evening events, and all scheduled
meals outlined in the agenda. The registration fee for guests is US $350.
Early registrations received by April 8, 2001 will receive a $50 discount.
The early registration fee is US $400 per attendee and US $300 per guest.
